Broughton Town Council is an openCouncil, and welcomes residents tocome to see it in operation. Usually,Full Council Meetings are usually on the last Monday of each month. All Meetings are held at the Community & Sports Centreon Scawby Road, and are open tothe public (subject to temporary confidentiality exclusions)

North Lincolnshire Council are currently in the process of bidding for some funds from Broadband UK, abody set up by Central Government to bring superfast fibre to the area.The key to getting the funding is toget communities involved saying that there is a demand for fast fibre and that the people need it! To this end,they have produced a simple Questionnaire to get a feel for where the problem areas are and to see how many people does it actually affect. You can either print the questionnaire, fill it in and post it back to the Digital Inclusion Unit atthe Council or complete it on-line a twww.tinyurl.com/nlcbbsurvey. The more questionnaire responses they receive the better as they have more evidence to show central government and the private sector that there is demand

In the next Bulletin there will be anarticle on Brigg District Lions. Most people have heard of the Lions but are they aware of what the Lions actually do within their Community? Brigg District Lions Beer Festival 12th-15th May 2011, Brigg District Lions Summer Fest 12th June 2011 This is a brand new venture in the form of a street market.

Broughton Town Council invite all residents and organisations inBroughton to submit nominations for the following annual awards:Community Service Award This Award is made to a person or persons within a family who have during the last year, or over a period of years, made an outstanding contribution in voluntary and unpaid service in the field of CommunityService to Broughton or the people of Broughton. Persons nominated must reside in Broughton and service should be over and above the contribution made within their own organisation.
Sporting Achievement
This award will be made for an outstanding achievementby a resident of Broughton.Young Persons of the YearThis award is to recognise the work and achievements of a youngperson residing in Broughton. Recipients will be no older than 21 at the time of presentation.The Selection Committee will decide upon the winners in all categories early in June and it is hoped to present the awards at a Council Meeting to be held in June. Nominations for any of the Awards should be forwarded to the Clerk to Broughton Town Council at the Council offices. Nominations should be in plain sealed envelopes with the words ‘Broughton Awards 2011’ printed in the top left hand corner. Full details should be given of achievements of the person being nominated for any of the Awards. Letters of application should be received by the Council no later than Tuesday 24th May 2011

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS COMPETITION 2010
Congratulations to the Chapman Family of The Blackthorns,Broughton. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor picked the Chapman’s Christmas Lights as the best in the town for Christmas 2010 and awarded them the £100 prize—£100 as it was not awarded last year.Mrs Yvonne Chapman attended the January Council meeting and was presented with the cheque by Councillor Ivan Glover, Mayor of Broughton. The Chapman's propose to donate their winnings toJerry Greens—true Christmas spirit!
ELECTIONS & REFERENDUMTHURS 5TH MAY 2011
Local elections for North Lincolnshire Council took place onThursday 5th May 2011. There will be no Town Council election in Broughton as there were fewer candidates than seats, so at a later date there will have to be a co-option of councillors to fill the vacancies that exist. So if you are interested in becoming a town councillor please contact theTown Clerk at the Council office on 01652 659441 for more info.
POPPY DAY 2010
The total collected in Broughton for 2010 was £3686.51 which was an increase on 2009 when the amount collected was £3339.08. Abig thank you to all the collectors and the people of Broughton fortheir generosity.

PLANNING APPLICATION PA/2011/0315
Locate Developments have submitted a planning application to erect abuilding for A1 Retail use together with associated parking, servicing and landscaping in the car park of the Dog & Rat Public House, High Street,Broughton. The full details of the application can be viewed on the North Lincolnshire Council Planning Applications website or alternatively please contact the Town Clerk at the Council office to view the drawings. Broughton Town Council have objected to this Planning Application. It will now have to be discussed at a North LincolnshireCouncil Planning meeting and the suggested date for this is Wednesday1st June 2011. 2pm, at Pittwood House. 20 YEARS OF TOWN TWINNING
This year Broughton will host French visitors from its twin town, Nozay,in the Loire Valley and celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the signing of the Twinning Charter. A small group of Broughton members will visit Nozay in May to celebrate with the town the official signing of the charter. They will be guests of the Mayor and families of Nozay. The incoming group of French will arrive in late July and further celebrations are planned. This year the trip will focus on the theme of local food and drink and local companies are asked if they can offer the visitors with an opportunity to see what the local area has to offer. The Committee are looking for site visits/talks and/or practical experiences to make it an interesting visit. For more information, please contact Sally Wadeon 01469 588995.
LILYWOOD RESIDENTS GROUP
The Committee of the Lilywood Residents Group have agreed to stand down from the Committee and have formed the Broughton Social Club.The concerts and outings will still continue in the high standard as before. They hope to embrace the whole of Broughton and make all welcome. Any suggestions for extra events such as bingo, tea dances etc will be studied and carried out providing the requirement is there. They would like to have more members on their Committee and more helpers with the Concerts. It is hoped that more people will wish to be a part of the new Club. The first event, following the 10th May Coffee morning is a Pie and Pea supper meal followed by a concert with Elizabeth Harrison, a popular professional organist.
